Guest Blog - A Review of Liberty Bound - Derek Beaugarde

I am delighted to be hosting my first guest blogger, Derek Beaugarde. Our paths crossed as authors and fellow aficionados of the sci-fi genre, trying to get new books out into the world. So, when Derek approached me asking if he could write this blog I was delighted - Nathaniel M Wrey.

In my opinion, Nathaniel M Wrey has crafted one of the best indie-author published books of 2020. Liberty Bound is an excellent dystopian novel set in the future, with a feeling of being in the past, which explores a reformed, autocratic societal structure in the walled city of Athenia, where civilisation is under threat and needs to be controlled by the omnipotent Wardyns. An ambitious guard of Athenia, named Finbarl, falls foul of the Governor and the Wardyns and is sentenced to the Prison, the barren, foreboding lands outside of the city walls. These lands are stalked by the fearsome Ferrals. It is here that Finbarl slowly realises that liberty can only be attained by throwing off the shackles constructed by the ruling class of Athenia, and, along with his growing love of the beautiful and resolute Aminatra, they try to find a way to a new and better life. But can they discover a way to escape being Liberty Bound? A book written in the same vein as George Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm and a compelling read in the current dystopian atmosphere created by the coronavirus pandemic. Liberty Bound is a book for its time. It is available in paperback, eBook and a very professionally crafted audiobook, narrated by actor Hugh Kermode.

Derek Beaugarde is the author of the apocalyptic sci-fi thriller 2084 The End of Days and the upcoming novella sequel 2112 Revelation.
