I’ve been writing short stories since my teens. Those early constructs were largely decent concepts framed in unsatisfactory prose and not worthy of publication. Some of the ideas still feel fresh and so, when time allows, I plan to repair the prose, as well as developing brand new ideas. I have recently rewritten one called Beyond The Law about a young tearaway in a village. The original, written around 2002, inspired a friend to make a short film entitled Stolen Youth, which won a few film festival awards, so I thought it had a pedigree worth reviving. In time, as I write other short stories, I will publish as a second collection, following The Dividends of Love and Other Stories.
I have written a new short story called The Gentleman, set in 1787, of which I like enough to enter into some short story competitions.
Here are a few stories on my to do list:
The Obscurus - a psychological horror tale born of the shadows
Crime novel - this idea is very much formed around a set of characters and is something I’m keen to turn into a novel. To hell with sticking in one genre!
